Kata – Forms

What Is Kata?

Kata means "form" — a choreographed sequence of strikes, blocks, kicks, and stances performed alone against imaginary opponents. Each kata preserves the art's techniques and principles in living form.

Kata Styles at Our School

At our school we study kata from three karate styles: Shotokan, Goju-Ryu, and Asai-Ryu. Training across these styles gives our students a complete picture of karate — from Shotokan's strong, dynamic forms to Goju-Ryu's breathing and close-distance techniques and the fluid, expressive kata of Asai-Ryu.

Why Practice Kata?

  • Builds balance, coordination, and full-body strength
  • Sharpens focus, breathing, and mental discipline
  • Teaches the real-life application of techniques (bunkai)
  • A moving meditation — practice alone, anywhere, for life
