Dojo Etiquette
Dojo Etiquette
The dojo is a place of respect and focused training. These simple rules keep training safe and meaningful for everyone.
The Dojo Kun
At the end of each class we recite the Dojo Kun — the five guiding principles of karate:
- Seek perfection of character
- Be faithful
- Endeavor to excel
- Respect others
- Refrain from violent behavior
Basic Rules
- Bow when entering and leaving the dojo
- Keep your uniform (gi) clean and your nails trimmed
- Remove jewelry and watches before training
- Listen quietly when the instructor speaks; never talk during exercises
- Respect every training partner — control your techniques
- Help keep the dojo clean
New students learn all of this naturally in their first classes — no need to memorize anything in advance.
