Asai Kata

Asai Kata

Master Tetsuhiko Asai created dozens of original kata, expanding Shotokan's curriculum with forms that develop fluidity, body dynamics, and advanced technique. The IJKA maintains an official approved kata list — here are its highlights.

The Junro Series (Junro Shodan – Godan)

Junro means "following the path." These five progressive kata are the backbone of Asai-Ryu training, introducing students step by step to Asai's dynamic body movement, stance transitions, and combinations.

The Kakuyoku Series (Kakuyoku Shodan – Sandan)

Kakuyoku means "crane's wings." These three advanced kata feature sweeping, circular arm movements inspired by the white crane — developing soft, flowing power and whole-body coordination.
